Regular maintenance
What your R1S needs, and when.
EVs skip oil changes, but tires, brakes, filters and the A/C still need attention. Here is what Rivian recommends, and what we check.
Tire rotation
Every 9,000 miles
With matching front and rear tire sizes. With different sizes, Rivian says to replace both tires on an axle before the wear indicators show.
Wheel alignment
As needed
Check if tires wear unevenly, the vehicle pulls, or after suspension work or a hard impact.
Comprehensive inspection
Every 18,000 miles or 18 months
Covers brake pads and rotors, brake fluid moisture, suspension, tires, low-voltage battery, driver-assistance sensors and more.
Brake inspection
At each comprehensive inspection
Pad and rotor thickness are checked; inspect sooner if you notice noise or vibration.
Brake caliper cleaning and lubrication
Every 12 months or 12,000 miles if driving on salted roads
Florida roads are not salted, so this usually does not apply here.
Brake fluid
Replace every 3 years
Moisture content is also tested at each comprehensive inspection.
Cabin air filter
As needed
Inspected and cleaned at the comprehensive inspection; replaced as needed.
A/C desiccant bag
As needed
Not listed in Rivian's maintenance schedule.
Wiper blades
As needed
Rivian lists wiper blades as replace-as-needed. Florida sun is hard on rubber.
12V / low-voltage battery
At each comprehensive inspection
Battery, mounting and corrosion are inspected; replace as needed.
Air suspension
Inspect regularly
Suspension and underbody wear are checked at the comprehensive inspection; we also check air springs and compressor on vehicles so equipped.
Coolant
Replace every 108,000 miles
Plus the coolant filter on 2022–2024 R1 vehicles.
Drive unit fluid
Every 108,000 miles
2022–2024 Quad-motor vehicles only.
Intervals based on manufacturer guidance. Where Rivian gives no specific interval, we say “inspect regularly” or “as needed”. Your vehicle’s own manual and app reminders take priority, and intervals can change by model year.
